Operation Jov Creation - Introduction

Operation Job Creation (OJC).

OJC was started to assist the shelters in the Joburg CBD with skills training and job creation. In 1998 it became clear that there was a need for a shelter in the Roodepoort area, so OJC opened the High-A-Life centre.

OUR VISION
To make a meaningful impact in the fight against poverty and homelessness in our city.

ADULT & YOUTH CARE CENTRE
A SHELTER FOR HOMELESS AND DESTITUDE PEOPLE
50 Residents

Our homeless shelter takes in people living on the street and provides them with accommodation including food, clothing and toiletries. Most of our residents arrive only with the clothes they are wearing. We also provide, whenever possible, training, education, medical care
and social services. Our emphasis at all times is on the restoration of our residents self esteem and financial independence to enable them to rejoin their families and communities as positive contributing members. Our beneficiaries range from babies to elderly people.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

OJC FEET ON THE STREET OUTREACH

We have volunteered to partner with Joburg City Displaced Persons Unit to assist people living and working on the streets of Region C. It is our objective of this project to help people to move off the streets into more suitable accommodation, and reunite them with family if possible.

OJC DISASTER RELIEF

Due to the large number of informal settlements in our area OJC assist in disaster relief. We give blankets and maize meal to victims of floods or fires.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

PROJECT BASADI PELE (Ladies First)

We currently have 61 skills trainees in the project studying Auxiliary and Pre-Nursing . They are studying at local colleges and staying at the High-A-Life centre. Thus providing them with a positive future as they have a skill much in demand and a career path in nursing.

PROJECT PHAMBILI (Forward)

This program accommodates our shelter residents who have now found a job but not yet able to afford accommodation. This assists these residents to move forward in their re-integration into the working world and encourages their future financial sustainability. 13 Residents

GARDENS

Thanks to the help of some wonderful ladies from thee church we have now started our vegetable garden. We have planted different kind of vegetables to be used in our kitchen.

IN HOUSE DAYCARE

We have a small daycare center run by a lovely lady. At the moment it is only for our residents children.

DROP-IN CENTRE

We have found a desperate need for a feeding scheme in our area. So we are working on opening a Drop-In centre (soup kitchen). We hope to open this by end of October.
